It hasn't taken long for me to realize how difficult this semester will be. I can safely say that the realization came within a few days of beginning school, after hearing multiple professors stress the importance of spending hours upon hours studying outside of class along with teaching ourselves some of the material. That along with church responsibilities, accounting club (I promise I'm not a nerd...at least not a major nerd haha), intramurals, coaching girls basketball (the "Pink Zebras"- a group of aspiring 10 year old ballers :) ), and the list goes on. Needless to say, I've been overwhelmed on a number of occassions, and a few nights ago I decided to go to the Lord with my concerns. I'd prayed before for the strength and energy to handle my difficult schedule, but this time I just wanted to know that He was there, that He saw Shawn Gordon Bean from Moore, OK. among the billions of Father's children now on the earth. I decided to choose a random scripture using that feature on my iPhone. The scripture that came up was Doctrine and Covenants 100:14-15. After reading this scripture, I immediately got the message. Applying that scripture to myself, it read "Shawn Bean is in my hands...Therefore, let your heart be comforted; for all things shall work together for good..." It was definitely a tender mercy, and I learned a really important lesson from it.
His Hands
We learn from W. Craig Zwick that the Hebrew word for hands is "yad", and when used metaphorically it means power, strength, or might. I love the application of this in Elder Zwick's words, "everyone of us needs to know that we can go on in the strength of the Lord. We can put our hand in His, and we will feel His sustaining presence lift us to heights unattainable alone" (2003 General Conference). His hands provide us strength beyond our own to deal with life's great challenges.
The Lord said to Enoch, "all flesh is in my hands, and I will do as seemeth me good." What a comfort it is to know that we are all in the hands of God. He knows us each by name, and loves us as His children. He wants what's best for us, not what we think is best for us. That we are all children of God is one of the most basic and beautiful principles of the gospel. We are in hands that formed sea and dry land (Psalms 95:5), hands that restored sight (Mark 8:23), hands that were pierced for the world (John 20:25-27). So remember when life seems too hard, it is. It's too hard for us to overcome alone. I'm eternally grateful to know that we're in good hands.
Shawn..just what I needed to hear today! Thanks for your sweet testimony..love you! Mom
